The Senior Buyer is responsible for driving profitable growth for you category. You will leverage all aspects of the Overstock merchandising strategy to drive performance. You will continuously monitor you category to identify new opportunities and risk. The Senior Buyer is accountable to achieve revenue and margin plan and to report your category results to the rest of the company.


Senior Buyer Job Responsibilities

Drive Results



  • Take ownership for the performance of your category. Utilize all merchandising levers to improve performance, including product selection, pricing, availability, promotions and shopping experience


  • Continuously monitor key performance indicators for your categories and maximize opportunity created by improving metrics or take corrective action to prevent declining metrics


  • Partner with the Sourcing Analyst (SA) to forecast demand and replenishment needs (e.g. Re-orders, open-to-buy management, slow sellers, markdown communication, exclusion SKUs, etc)


  • Ensure product selection meets consumer needs and work continuously to improve the selection through new and existing supplier partner relationships


  • Negotiate with partners to ensure complete and competitive product assortment


  • Negotiate with partners to maximize opportunity associated with promotional activity


  • Assess all aspects of product cost to offer the customer the most competitive prices


  • Be proactive and action oriented to execute on all opportunities


  • Execute the tactical aspects of the job to ensure execution is thorough and consistent with the strategy (e.g. purchase order generation, new product addition, markdown execution, etc)



Apply Critical Thinking

  • Apply rigorous analytics and a hypotheses driven approach to identify areas of opportunity to drive profitable growth


  • Develop data driven insights to confirm or refute potential opportunity hypotheses across all merchandising levers (product selection, pricing, availability, promotions and shopping experience)


  • Use analytics and business acumen to develop negotiating strategies and supporting material to leverage during partner discussions or internal discussions


  • Leverage your retail knowledge and competitive analysis to identify market trends that you can you exploit



Relationship Management

  • Maintain close and active relationships with each supplier in your portfolio,


  • Be a strategic thought partner to your supplier partners to help drive mutual growth of your businesses


  • Be a problem solver to overcome strategic and tactical problems preventing profitable growth for your supplier partners' business on Overstock


  • Advocate for your supplier partners among internal teams at Overstock that need to collaborate with you to drive growth and profitability



Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with marketing to ensure category traffic and conversion is optimized


  • Collaborate with pricing to ensure product assortment is competitively priced and margin optimized


  • Collaborate with Product Management to assure the shopping experience is world-class


  • Collaborate with the Partner Care Associate (PCA) to drive operational excellence among the supplier community according to company service level agreements



Team Development

  • Partner with the VP/Director of Merchandise Management (GMM/DMM) and the Merchandise Manager (MM) to ensure your business is aligned with the department level strategy and goals


  • Identify professional development opportunities for associate buyer and other associates on your team


  • Adopt a continuous performance improvement mindset for you and your team, involving frequent mentoring, performance goal setting and feedback discussions

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
