Job Summary


The Software Developer in Data Science is a skilled Java developer who also takes on many of the responsibilities of a data scientist, algorithm developer, and innovator in order to improve the content shown on Overstock's eCommerce platform, including search relevancy, site sort, product recommendations, and personalization.


Job Responsibilities



  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and performant Java webservices

  • Design, develop, and maintain data mining jobs in Java, Hadoop, Spark, R, SQL, and/or other query language

  • Study data patterns and user experience to propose and refine project ideas

  • Data exploration and algorithm development for purposes such as recommendations, search relevancy, and personalization

  • Exercise strong communication, collaboration, and ownership of code and projects


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 2 years of software development experience; 5
    years preferred

  • Relatively strong math background for a developer; machine learning, data science, or analytics preferred

  • Strong Java skills (version 8 preferred)

  • Understanding of object-oriented programming and data structures and algorithms

  • Experience with most of the following standard development technologies:
    IDEs (we use IntelliJ or Eclipse); version control (svn and git); Java build managers (maven); unit testing (JUnit); JMS; servlets (Tomcat); dependency injection (Spring); REST; relational databases (Oracle 12c); NoSQL databases (Cassandra, HBase); Linux/Unix

  • Experience with some of the following specialized technologies or similar:
    Solr; Lucene; Hadoop (Pig, Oozie, Hive); Spark; Storm; R; graph databases (Neo4j,Titan)


Education


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar technical field or equivalent work experience

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
